Protoura Race selected as the safety car tyre in Greek racing championship

Wednesday 20th May 2026

Protoura Race has been fitted to the safety car of the 2026 Panhellenic Speed Championship, the premier national motorsport competition in Greece.

Sport Cars Tech – part of the Spanos SA group, Davanti’s Greek customer – has tuned the Mini Cooper S JCW vehicle with the necessary modifications including front splitter, front side wings, lowering springs, and Protoura Race tyres. It is the second time they have participated in the event.

Marios Savidis, Sport Cars Tech Commercial Director, said:

“Spanos Group, especially the Technology of Sports Cars SA division, has specialised in vehicle performance improvement and tuning for more than 30 years, so the decision to collaborate with the Championship came naturally to us.

“Dimitrios Spanos, father of the owner Georgios Spanos, participated in many championships and racing events with the legendary BMW 2002, passing on his passion and experience to future generations.

Having personally been part of the organisation for the past 17 years, what I can say with certainty is that we continuously share our passion for motorsport with our customers through the products and partnerships we represent, bringing racing know-how and driving enjoyment into the everyday.”

Kostas Lakafosis, safety car driver for this year’s Speed Championship races, commented on the Protoura Race tyre performance:

“This particular car is ideal for this use, since it fits perfectly on the Megara [Athens] track. It is easy to drive and very fast, with the ability to follow the pace of the racing cars. Thanks to the Davanti semi-slick tyres, the car can stand on the track with confident grip and move at a pace which corresponds to the N2 category with very predictable behaviour.

“Davanti’s semi-slick tyres seem to work perfectly at around 2.4bar and 55-60 degrees celsius, and if you don’t overdo it on repeated laps, they seem to last quite a while.”

The 2026 Panhellenic Speed Championship is currently underway, with round three set to take place at Megara Circuit on 26-27 September.
