What should you look for when buying a new set of tyres?

Friday 16th December 2022

Looking for the right set of tyres can feel overwhelming. However, there are some key things you can think about which will help you understand what is important and ensure you buy the right set for you, while giving you performance, safety, and fuel efficiency.

Size

When reviewing what size tyre you need for your car, there are two key things to keep in mind:

  1. Your new set of tyres should be the same size, with the load index and speed rating specification as recommended by the manufacturer
  2. The new tyres must never be of a smaller size or lower load-carrying capacity than the original specification

When you take a look at the documentation supplied with your vehicle, there’s no doubt there will be suitable information to advise you what is required – all of which can also be found on your tyre sidewall.

Grip

It doesn’t matter where, when or how you drive, you need to make sure you have the right tyres that provide optimum safety and performance. Some tyres are specifically designed for certain conditions, so it’s important to understand your particular tyre needs.

At Davanti we put a lot of emphasis on tyre research and development to create the right tyre for all weather and road conditions. Each tyre concept and prototype is analysed by an expert team of technical specialists and engineers before entering a rigorous testing process that can take months or even years to perfect.

So take your time to think about which conditions you experience the most – wet, icy and cold, or dry and hot – and also the road surface. It could be off-roading, motorway driving or driving with heavy loads.

Value for money

Now more than ever, value for money is important to households around the UK. If you are particularly interested in ensuring your tyres offer you good quality at a competitive price, it might be time to shift to a mid-range tyre brand or look to an all-season tyre range to suit your different driving patterns.

All-season tyres are an option many people don’t know about – and they offer all-year-round lasting performance from season to season. Not only that, they remove the hassle and expense of changing between summer and winter tyres. Check out our first all-season passenger car tyre, Alltoura 4-Seasons.

Fuel efficiency

Tyres account for up to 20% of your car’s fuel consumption, so it’s important you understand how different tyres perform in relation to fuel economy. All new tyres purchased in the UK come with an EU Tyre Label, which is there to help you make an informed choice when choosing a new tyre.

Davanti Tyres’ general manager, Peter Cross said: “Choosing the right tyre doesn’t need to be as overwhelming as it can first seem. Thinking about these simple elements means when you take your car to the garage, you can talk clearly about what you want and need, ensuring your garage fits the right tyre for you.

As a tyre manufacturer, we have spent years developing tyres to make sure drivers get the best experience possible and enjoy driving with confidence whatever the weather or road surface.”
