Shootout victory sees Larne win County Antrim Shield
Thursday 3rd December 2020Larne Football Club has lifted the County Antrim Shield for the first time in its history in a nailbiting penalty shoot-out against 26-time champions Glentoran.
It was a proud day for everyone associated with the Northern Irish Football League Premiership club – players, staff, fans and club partners, including Davanti Tyres.
After the game finished 0-0, it went to the dreaded penalty shoot-out. But Larne skipper Jeff Hughes kept his nerve and slotted home the decisive spot-kick to bring the shield back to Inver Park.
“The club’s just gone from strength to strength,” said Larne boss Tiernan Lynch. “Thank you to all our fans and partners for the support you have given us. We have a phenomenal bunch of boys and so many people have got behind them.
“It’s exciting times for the fans and everyone connected to the club, but it’s important we stay humble and focus on working harder tomorrow than we did today.”
“Huge congratulations to Larne Football Club,” said Sean Maddocks, Davanti Tyres Sales Director for the UK and Ireland. “When we first became an official partner this summer, we were very clear we were here to support Larne’s vision to compete for honours on the pitch and to make a positive difference to the community off the pitch.
“Success in one area often fuels success in the other. We are incredibly proud that Tiernan Lynch and the team have achieved this historic win and we believe this is only the start for Larne.”
