Davanti & Everton star Calvert-Lewin Make It Happen for superfan Chris
Friday 26th March 2021Dominic Calvert-Lewin kept a promise by dedicating his first goal in England’s win over San Marino on Thursday night to an Evertonian he surprised on a recent video call.
A clip of Blues supporter Chris Howgate crying after Calvert-Lewin scored an injury-time equaliser against Manchester United in February was watched almost a million times on Twitter.
As part of their Make It Happen campaign, Everton’s Official Global Tyre Partner Davanti arranged for Chris to get a surprise call from Calvert-Lewin, 24, last week.
During the conversation, Calvert-Lewin asked if there was a celebration Chris would like him to do the next time he scored and the Everton man did it after heading England into a 2-0 lead at Wembley – his first of two goals as Gareth Southgate’s side opened their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a comprehensive 5-0 win.
Calvert-Lewin, who now has four goals in six appearances for the Three Lions, wheeled away and kissed his fist before raising it aloft as a nod to Chris.
“We just want to say a massive thank you to Dominic for everything,” said Chris’ father, Dean.
“We were sitting watching the game last night, hoping he’d get a few goals for himself and then, when he scored and did the celebration, it was just incredible.
“Chris just kept saying, ‘Wow, wow, wow’. He couldn’t believe one of his heroes had done that for him.
“The reaction to the original video on Twitter [of Chris celebrating Calvert-Lewin’s goal against Manchester United] blew us away but to get the chance to speak to Dom last week and now this, it’s something else and just fantastic what he has done for Chris.
“He’s overwhelmed by it all but loving it at the same time.”
Calvert-Lewin, who has now struck 23 times for Club and country this season, added: “It was brilliant to speak to Chris last week and then to get the opportunity to do the celebration for him last night. I was always going to keep the promise and it was nice to do it for him in a game so many people around the country will have been watching.
“He’s a massive Evertonian, a fantastic character, and it was great to be able to do something that’s put a smile on his face. That one was for you, Chris.”
Everton and Davanti Tyres announced a renewed and expanded multi-year global commercial partnership in February 2020.
The Liverpool-based company’s Make It Happen campaign sees them deliver exclusive content, giveaways and once-in-a lifetime experiences for fans of its brand partners.
Sean Maddocks, Davanti Tyres’ Sale Director for the UK & Ireland, said: “Everybody at Davanti was really moved by the video of Chris on social media following the game against Manchester United and we wanted to do something special to recognise his passion for the Club.
“Our involvement with Everton goes far beyond just a commercial arrangement and that’s what Make It Happen is all about – giving something back to Evertonians, to the community and bringing fans even closer to the Club.
“That Dominic then did the celebration for Chris while playing for England capped off a fantastic story and everyone at Davanti is delighted for Chris that it’s happened.”
